Yoga meets spin class: Cy-Yo is the lastest fitness craze
It’s not enough to do just yoga or spend an hour in spin class. In our multitasking culture, it’s only cool if you can mix it up.
Rapidly infiltrating the fitness scene, Cy-Yo is a cross between cyclilng and yoga (cy-yo, get it?). A typical Cy-Yo class begins with a 10-minute yoga flow focused on energizing your muscles, lubricating and warming the joint structures, and bringing awareness to the mind/body energy centers—yep, just like in yoga. Next is a 40-minute indoor cycling class.
What’s different is that during the cycling class particular attention is paid to your energy center using visualization techniques and breathing patterns. According to the masterminds behind Cy-Yo, the purpose of this phase of the workout is to release negative energy, detoxify, and increase energy fields. A 10-minute yoga flow is done immediately after the cycling class to help you refocus and create a positive energy flow.
Visit the Cy-Yo website to view demonstrational video clips and locate a Cy-Yo participating facility near you (you can buy the workout DVD too if you don't live on the East Coast).
Have you tried this workout? If so, share it with the Belisi community! What's the real benefit of combining the calming aspects of yoga to super-charged spinning?
