Gifts for men: what to get the guys on your list

Best Gifts for Men

When it comes to buying gifts for men, the rules are pretty simple. Unlike women, most guys like getting gifts that make their lives easier. If it means one less trip to the mall, all the better. If it entertains them, it’s a winner. While women like gifts that make them feel pampered, men like gifts that give them more time to do the things they like doing (i.e., having fun). So if you buy them a new work wardrobe, that means they can spend more time, you guessed it, having fun. Whether it’s enjoying their wine collection or playing video games.

What clothes to keep, what to toss

What to keep and what to toss, donate, or relegate to the back of your closet

Leggings

There are a lot of trends floating around, and some of their staying power is surprising. Like leggings. They look good on virtually no one and yet the trend has persevered despite much backlash and skepticism. How can a style that so blatantly accentuates the calf and calls attention to ankles and the true height of the average American woman have endured for this long? Finally, the end is near my friends.

Fall boot trends

Whether you're ready for it or not, fall is right around the corner and stores are gearing up for the dip in temperature. Stores are stocking up on the cutest boot styles for the upcoming seasons. Here's what you can expect:

Mk_cuffed_bootie It's bootie time! Okay, mind on fashion please. Booties are sort of like truncated versions of taller boots-lopped off at the ankle. Think stylish Mary Poppins (with a few extra inches on the heel).Mary_poppins_bootie

For pretty much all boots, the style is decidedly rounder toe with a narrower look. Patent leather is still in, as well as suede and smooth leather. All sorts of cute variations are popping up in different colors and varying size heel heights and widths. Women can wear them as a dressy or casual accessory, so I think you will see all sorts of women wearing them--to work, out shopping or on the town. Booties are so stylish they can be worn with dresses, skirts, jeans and long shorts with tights.

Mk_tall_boot Short, flat boots and tall boots make a comeback as a fall staple for a "safe" option. For men, short boots in smooth leather present a polished and hip look for work or play.

Jellies are back

My moth Jelliesblueer always told me that if you were around when the style debuted, chances are you shouldn't wear it when it comes back around. Not to date myself but I remember begging my mom for a pair of iridescent jelly shoes back in the day. And she said, "No." So this would probably exempt me from her second-time-around rule. But still. The reason she wouldn't let me wear them was because she thought they were bad for my feet, as in they would give me blisters and not provide the proper support. In all fairness my 4-inch stilettos don't offer much in arch comfort. Looking at this season's line-up of brightly colored 80s throwbacks, I think it's a trend best left to the girls who look good in leggings. And $100 for a pair of flimsy rubber? I think they cost $2 when I was a kid. That's a pretty big adjustment for inflation (but then again I never thought I'd paid over $200 for a pair of jeans). I just can't get into this style but that's what fashion is all about--individual expression. As for me, I'm fine with my ankle breaker platforms and wedges.

Summer Trends: What to Wear

This summer is all about bright, playful colors and patterns. For women, everything is casual—even work clothes are lighter and brighter. The generational influences run the gamut of 50s glam to 70s bohemian to 80s rocker.

Tunics and free flowing tops rank high on the wish list for summer, like this fluid empire top from Nordstrom .

For tops, dresses and skirts it’s all about thick stripes, modern geometric patterns and nautical themes. For a re-interpretation of the bold stripes look, I like this Ella Moss dress.

Long shorts are hot, like these Bermudas at the Gap. Conversely, the style powers-that-be decided to revive short shorts for another season.

Premium denim is still a hot trend that goes with everything. When you have on a great fitting pair of designer jeans, you can get away with a lot on top. A $10 shirt looks like a $100 shirt paired with the right denim. I’ve seen a shift toward labels with more reasonable price points (I think we’ve all had about enough paying over $200 for a pair of blue jeans). Joe’s Jeans are super comfy and come in a variety of styles to fit a variety of shapes and sizes.

For handbags, small, hard-cased clutches along with animal skins, python and croc in particular, are really hot right now, as is colored patent leather, oversized satchels and sleek, extra long evening bags.

And finally, the ultimate “it” accessory for summer is the silk scarf. Colorful solid and print scarves are everywhere: you can spot them holding bag youthful ponytails, tied playfully around a wrist or handbag, worn as a belt, headband or around the neck. Scarves a great way to add instant, personalized style to any summer ensemble. There are so many options—small scarves for wrists, long scarves for belts and headbands, even as a cute summer top ... the possibilities are countless!

Along with the right swimsuit, oversized tote, sunglasses, flip-flops, and Lucite bangle bracelets, silk scarves are a great way to accessorize and keep the elements at bay. Wind, chlorine and sand can wreak havoc on your tresses. A stylish silk scarf helps tame fly-aways, protect your precious hue from the sun's fading rays and keep pesky sand particles at bay.

A new season at The Gap

Okay, so it's no secret that The Gap has struggled to reinvent itself. While I can't speak to what's in the works for its next advertising campaign (please no rappers, aging rockers, or bubblegum popsters parading around in hoodies and Gap jeans); things are changing at a Gap near you.

A recent perusal of the Gap website revealed some interesting things. First, there's the return of functional/stylish work clothes and casual wear made for The Gap’s previous majority clientele. But the real question is: is it possible for The Gap to change public opinion? To recapture a unique marketshare not already owned by its sister companies, Banana Republic and Old Navy? Possibly. The Gap's winter-into-spring collection features some cute dresses, capris and shorts. Of course you can still find every style of denim--from topstiched to drawstring to bootcut to skinny--but the gig's up, Gap jeans just aren't cool anymore. So, the Powers That Be at Gap headquarters are trying some new tricks.

KhakidressI was pleased to see the Wear Now, Wear Later section on the Gap website, where dresses, skirts, and tops are shown on models for winter and then alternatively for spring. It falls in line with the rise in transitional fashion--and these handy pictorial guides help shoLeatherhoboppers visualize entire outfits before they buy. They're also great for getting new ideas for clothes you already own.

But the price points threw me off. One leather handbag costs $198, which is something you might expect at Banana Republic maybe … but The Gap? The bag is part of the new premium (luxe) leather hangbag line. Across the board the company seems to have upped the ante—a move I’m not sure consumers will buy, both figuratively and literally. Are women willing to fork over nearly $200 for a bag with a little blue label inside? Only time will tell.

Multi-seasonal fashion—is it possible?

Remember the days when trends lasted one season? To be caught wearing last season’s “it” item was the Kiss of Death. Now we cross our fingers and hope that skinny jeans and metallics come back for encore performances. Well, we got our wish. And for those of us who love wearing dresses—even in the dead of winter—we can hold on to most of those too. Finally, the style mavens are cutting us some slack!

A Leg up on Leggings

You’ve probably noticed that leggings are back in a big way, so if you were holding out to make sure the trend caught on, now’s the time to catch up to the early adopters. According to Michelle Antonelli, design director of Cable & Gauge and Spenser Jeremy, wearing leggings can be tricky (and you thought it was as easy as one leg after another).

To avoid further confusion, Ms. Antonelli breaks it down for us.

How to wear leggings

Leggings • Pick an easy style dress in one of the new baby doll, a-line or trapeze shapes.
• Go soft by selecting a feminine printed georgette or an easy soft knit dress in a great color.
• Keep it simple by opting for a solid color legging in black or brown
• Keep it in proportion. Make sure the dress or top you select hits just at or above the knee. If you’re wearing a mini-dress, select Capri length leggings and a ballerina flat.
• Skip the hosiery and show off your ankles and the top of your foot by wearing a ballerina flat or colored pump.

Dressing up for the transition from winter to spring/spring to summer

Fashion divas hate to give up their favorite frocks, and fortunately layering is still a key trend, which allows us to wear make a smooth transition. Here are some simple tips from Ms. Antonelli on making your must-have dress span a couple of seasons.

Favorite Sheer Printed Dress: When the weather is chilly pair with a great turtleneck, tights and boots. When springtime arrives shed the layers and slip into a strappy metallic sandal with the great completer – an abbreviated length cardigan. For a super casual summer look, treat yourself to a fabulous pedicure and slip on your favorite flip flops.

Sheath

Essential Sheath Dress: Layer a fine gauge long sleeve knit tee to give the essential dress a jumper look for winter. On a chilly spring day trade in the tee for a soft short sleeved tee or slip into a colorful topper jacket that is just about two inches above the hem of the dress. When it’s time to go sleeveless be sure to select a structured patent leather flat or go for a color or special detail like a bow or buckle. Jimmy Choo recently featured a rich red with vanilla trip and a bow that would be the perfect addition to the essential sheath dress.

Knit Dresses: Matte jersey dresses or separates can be your yeDressleggings_1ar-round friend. Pair with your favorite short cardigan a pair of warm and cozy tights. Many women find knits an essential addition to their travel wardrobe or for those in between days when Mother Nature hasn’t quite figured out what she’d like to do.

The Return of Metallic: How to Make It Work

According to Antonelli, if the runway is an indication of what’s here to stay, then metallics will be with us for yet another year. Designers have embraced shimmer and retailers are still hot for metallics, but how can we be on trend without blinding ourselves? Here are two quick tips to keep in mind the next time you reach for a metallic piece:

Find Your Shine: Don’t be afraid to experiment. Handbags, shoes, belts, Lurex sweaters and dresses in brocade or jacquard fabrics all feature different degrees of shimmer, from metallic glazes to simple touches of metallic, hardware details (grommets, buckles and rings) and two-tone trims. Cable & Gauge features gold metallic thread details and hardware in its nautical and classic neutral resort styles that can be worn from late winter and into spring. The summer line will also offer shimmery shells.

Opt for Simple Shimmer: Remember less is more when it comes to metallic and the trick to pulling off the luxe look is to pick one piece and let it shine. It’s easy to start at the top by selecting a metallic knit with a special detail like a kimono sleeve or a blouson shape and dress it up with a velvet skirt for cocktails or pair it with jeans for a casual look. Experiment and investigate this trend, it’s here to stay… at least for now.

Special thanks to Michelle Antonelli, design director of Cable & Gauge and Spenser Jeremy for her fabulous advice!

Beyond the Little Black Dress: Spring fashion goes psychedelic

The little black dress will forever remain a staple for every woman’s wardrobe, so don’t go throwing it out yet or lament your recent splurge on that black party dress. Think of the trend toward vibrant metallics and bold 60s prints as a breath of fresh air—or a welcome trip down Memory Lane.

You might not expect to see short colorful dresses mid-winter but surprise, surprise! It’s all about the pinks, reds, oranges, notice-me prints and daring precious metals. No sooner have you started thinking about shedding those eggnog, double chocolate fudge, pudding pie pounds than derierre skimming tunics and satin smocks start popping up on racks at your favorite boutiques and department stores.

But don’t panic and lock yourself in a steam room. You don’t need Twiggy’s figure to pull off this season’s hottest looks. There are flattering styles for every body type such as A line silhouettes with long sleeves like Matthew Williamson’s multicolored Poppy Sequined Tunic dress. This lovely piece has you covered in terms of trendiness, yet offers enough of an understated look. You can even pair it with jeans to get more mileage out of your investment. And if you want a little extra help looking awesome in your mod squad tunic or Hold-You-In Sculpted Pencil Dress, there’s Shape FX to the rescue. Through the magic of control-hold fabrics and designs, Shape FX will help you look as if you've already erased the winter pounds as you work to balance the scale.

Jojo_spell_11895388_600

In addition to this season’s warm color palette, trendsetters and Hollywood A-listers have been heating up premieres, parties and award shows with gold and silvery hues. Thandie Newton wore a vintage Calvin Klein dress to the film premiere of "The Pursuit of Happyness" in Beverly Hills, while Gayle King glitterized her cocktail dress at the "Dreamgirls" premiere with gold-toned stilettos. Cate Blanchett dazzled fans with a floor-length gold dress at the "Babel" premier. Ms. Blanchett stuck with her precious metals theme at the "Notes On A Scandal” premiere when she wore a mercury-colored suit and matching stilettos.

Singer JoJo isn't afraid to wear bright colors in the winter.

The great thing about a lot of these dresses is that you can wear them from now through the end of summer. Like the Chelsea Flower Wrapped Pearls Halter Dress from InterMix.com will make you the spice of every party or the hottest number on the boardwalk in June. Many of this season's dresses are extremely versatile. Glam them up for cocktail parties or a night at the Opera or throw on some tights and stacked platform shoes for a night out with the girls.

If you’re determined to remain loyal to black you’re still in the clear. Black is classic regardless of season and occasion. But given the playfulness of this season’s frocks, why not have a little fun with your dress noir? Punch up a sublime silk cocktail dress with this flirty brocade cocktail skirt by Vian Hunter?

Shoes, Shoes and more Shoes!

Laces out: do shoes really make the outfit?

What came first, the chicken or the egg? The sexy black dress or the strappy stilettos? One way to look at it is that even if you blow your house payment on the sexiest dress on the planet, if you wear a pair of shabby shoes—or the wrong shoes—you might as well have worn a flour sack. On the other hand, you could wear a so-so dress and a pair of hot heels and bam! Insta outfit. But seriously, it doesn’t really matter which one pulls more weight, what matters is that neither can pull off a fabulous look with the other.

This season, platforms, knee boots, ballerina flats and ankle boots are accessory must-haves (or outfit makers, however you want to look at it). Here’s how to pair each style, courtesy of Faryl Robin Morse of Faryl Robin Footwear:

The knee-high boot: Wear with mini skirts and knee length skirts, skinny jeans. The ankle boot: Wear with skinny jeans and skirts with tights. Platforms: Wear with everything! Dress them up with A line skirts and tweed jackets, or go for casual with jeans. Ballerina flats: Wear with skirts and tights or skinny jeans.

Just Jewelry

Update your wardrobe with jewelry

“A great way to update your wardrobe without depleting your budget is with accessories,” said Sara Rogers, trend specialist for Mall of America. “For women this includes belts, handbags, hoop earrings, leggings, big sunglasses, and chunky jewelry in gold pewter or copper.”

Fall Fashion also offers an entirely new color palette not seen for several seasons.  In addition to black, fall color schemes feature a combination of darks and neutrals, such as camel, taupe, black, chocolate brown and smoky grey accented with bright jewel like gold, teal, purple and red.

With that in mind, dare to be bold this fall with vibrant jewelry. The Candy Couture line by La Bijou Belle Jewelry comes in succulent colors and bon-bon like shapes that look good enough to eat—but we wouldn’t recommend it (choking on a rhinestone, not a pretty picture). The hip and unique jewelry is already a hit with fashionistas, stylists, TV hosts, and celebrities. Fabricated out of vintage Lucite and semi-precious stones, get your candy at hot LA boutiques including Belle Gray and Miriam Claudette Jewelry in Sunset Plaza.

Staying true to the seriously feminine look, designers are looking to the some of the most romantic time periods for inspiration. Jewelry is no exception. Mixing vintage and contemporary beads Leanna Lin, a Los Angeles based jewelry designer, produces limited one-of-a-kind pieces that have a sweet, yet quirky and retro, vibe.

Heavy Metal

It’s no surprise that metallics are in this fall but gold and copper aren’t the only metals making waves. Steel and titanium are hitting the shelves—and just as fast finding their way onto well-manicured fingers and delicate wrists around the world. I bet you never thought you’d wear jewelry made out of the same stuff used to make flagpoles É you know the one you stuck your tongue to in second grade?

"The alternative metal such as steel and titanium as well as colors such as five-stone jewelry are popular now,” said Udi Behr, a designer of the popular Love and Pride jewelry and Time for Peace watches. “But I advise my customers not to follow the trend that the industry makes, but to wear jewelry that expresses who you are.”

It’s always fun to watch the runway trends and emulate fashion models to some degree; your personal style signature should always have a unique element. As Coco Chanel once said, “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”

Now you’re all dressed up and accessorized, or so you think. Watches not only tell you when you need to be at your next appointment, party or date, they tell the world that you’re on top of things—no flying by the seat of your embellished jeans for you. For watches, styles run the gamut. Depending on your wrist size and personal style preferences, feel free to wear what feels and looks good. All metals are popular, from gold to titanium, so there is no need to feel restricted. Slim bands, chunky bands, even leather, the choice is yours. You can even make a political statement with your timepiece. The Time for Peace watch is a bold Swiss-action, mineral crystal watch sporting a bright orange peace sign on the face with a matching orange leather strap.

Making it personal

Whatever your look--conservative, funky or oozing with sexuality--jewelry lets you personalize your wardrobe. Add a unique piece to any outfit and it becomes a signiture look. With a wide range of colors, styles, sizes and materials, there are limitless options for creating a style that is 100 percent you, and only you.

Hot Handbags

Big is in

With gadgets getting smaller it’s interesting that the hottest trend in handbags is “the bigger the better.” Is it our mobile lifestyles—the need to have essentials (i.e., emergency sewing kit, makeup bag, mouthwash, Blackberry, personal hygiene items, cell phones, etc.) within reach at all times? Or, maybe we just want roomier bags (it’s always nice knowing that if you need the space, it’s there). Whatever the reason, handbags are as big as Texas. Oversized totes, hobo bags and Jackie O bucket and shoulder bags provide enough choices to accommodate business, casual and a night on the town.

“The hottest handbags for fall are big, bigger, biggest,” said Susan Sommer, former fashion editor turned fashion and business etiquette coach and founder of Dresszing, a wardrobing and visual communications company. “Think oversized. Get to your essentials—wallet, keys, phone, compact and lipgloss—quickly by putting them in a small zippered case tucked inside.”

Mary Jo Matsumoto (www.maryjomatsumoto.com), whose bags have appeared on the arm of A-list stars, chimed in on the big bag phenomenon. “One of the biggest upcoming trends for fall bags is big, roomy, and black sack-like bags like the ones that Chanel put out this season. Also, oversized doctor's bags are a trend as seen in the Marc Jacobs collection for Louis Vuitton.”

Is your handbag still in style?

Okay, so we get that bags are big. What else is influencing top designers? Fortunately there is a lot of carryover from past seasons—so that metallic gold bag you got last year is back for a repeat performance this fall. Neutral colors are always a safe bet, but with flashier twists, such as patent leather, you can have some fun too.

“The 80s influence are back again in the world of fashion,” said Barbara Glass, Image & Wardrobe Consultant, Fashion Editor, and TV Fashion Reporter. “The spring and summer seasons kicked off with oversized straw and colorful canvas totes and the double-strapped pocketed schoolbag look in patent leather to hold your most basic essentials or flip-flops for when those wedge skyscrapers create pain with no relief.”

When going out on the town, styles shift away from the gargantuan daytime bags. “For evening, try to simplify your life with one of the new mini bags, clutches or wristlets and find a deserving guy to carry wherever else it can't hold,” Glass said. “Lipgloss, keys, breath mints and cab fare should be do the trick. Look for patent leather to be an important fabric in handbags and shoes for fall and winter. It's practical and has a retro influence.”

Handbag designer Rebecca Ciccio (www.rebeccaciccio.com) says stick to the basics for a classic, sophisticated look. “For the fall, earthy colors like chocolate brown and camello are perfect, but black is definitely making a comeback.” Metallics are still in favor with designers and consumers, so spice up that black dress or clinging cashmere v-neck with a metallic bag or clutch. “Metallics will show up for fall into holiday, in dark golds, bronze, and taupe, as well as some accent colors like plum and winter white. For play, a clutch in a fun and exotic material.”

Matsumoto echoes Ciccio with her prediction about bold metallics and earth tones. “Another big trend that will be emerging as we move quickly from fall to Resort (that season starts in November) is tons of silver and gunmetal, especially in day bags,” she said. “Plus surprisingly, gray will be emerging as a major color in accessories.”

9-5 É It’s a way to make a living

Listen up working girls. Women’s business accessories are no longer dull and drab. With colors and designer details, you can make a style statement with your workbag.

“For work, large bags are still as strong as ever,” Ciccio said. “There are many women in the work force who want to have a bag that will fit everything from their wallet and make-up case, to magazines or even a lap top. However, make sure the bags is not too big and over trendy.”

Believe it or not, the shelves are lined with colorful bags bearing crocodile prints or leather trimmed tweeds with gorgeous brushed silver hardware, all shaped into the season’s must-have accessories. We’re not talking about a women’s specialty boutique – this is Staples.

Forget the unisex laptop bag – business women now have new choices that go well beyond the basic. Accessories are evolving new styles, finishes, color and fittings to match the best-dressed businesswoman.

Targus offers a pair of stylish business totes, each roomy enough to accommodate a laptop, plus cell phone, business cards and essential papers. The Quilted Messenger Bag ($59.99) shows the softer side of business. The satiny black nylon is criss-crossed with bright magenta stitching with a matching magenta lining. The bag is padded and has plenty of pockets for pens and accessories.

Buxton’s Kelly Bag ($109.99) wraps practicality into a leather tote with a clean style. The Kelly Bag features a center zip pocket, a full-zippered main compartment, and a fully padded laptop section. Expandable utility loops, card and cell pockets give the Kelly bag plenty of carrying power. Available in red, dark brown and black.

The Bag Wardrobe

Starting from scratch? Not sure where to start? Sounds like you need some advice on building a bag wardrobe (yes, there is such a thing). Take some cues from handbag aficionado Stephanie Pederson, who knows so much about handbags, she wrote a book about them called Handbags: What Every Woman Should Know.

Despite her love of gorgeous handbags, Stephanie realizes not every woman can afford a collection that costs as much as most people’s first house. Realistically, a handbag “wardrobe” can consist on one solid number, as long as it’s the “right” one. “Choose a neutral-colored, reasonably sized (not too big) shoulder bag and one may be all you need,” Stephanie said. But let’s be honest, most of us want more than one handbag. According to her, the average woman owns 4-6 handbags, up from the 3-4 in the 90s. So, how to round out your collection?

Stephanie’s Sage Advice:

    • One evening bag in a neutral color. When you shop, be on the lookout
for an after-dark purse, something metallic, sparkly, or black.
      Clutches are great for nighttime.
    • A separate workbag. What field do you work in? Those in creative
fields have more leeway than bankers, layers, college administrators
and the like. Look at what your boss is toting and find something
similar. Show your creative side on weekends, when you're free to carry
something more light-hearted. No matter what your job, consider a
shoulder bag. They always look right.
    • Something fun for weekends and play days. Maybe a brightly colored
hobo, a souvenir tote, a designer backpack.
    • A gym bag or diaper bag that is polished enough to look smart at all
times, fun enough to be, well, fun to carry.
    • Travel bag. If you go on frequent weekend getaways, consider a
great-looking overnight satchel or large tote. If you're really
organized, get yourself a set of matching luggage! Consider your
lifestyle. A stay-at-home mom can get away with a collection of kitschy
totes that would be completely wrong for a corporate attorney.
Likewise, if you're a student who loves jeans and fleece pullovers,
don't bother wasting money on dressy evening clutches.
    • If you live in a place with marked seasons, you'll need at least one
bag for cool weather (think wool, nylon, or leather in a medium to dark
shade) and another warm weather option ( a straw tote is ideal, as is a
cloth drawstring bag or a satchel in a bright shade).

Dianne M. Daniels, a certified member of the Association of Image Consultants International, has some advice of her own for building a handbag wardrobe.

    • For work - choose a handbag that is no wider than your hips to keep it in proportion with the rest of your body. Nothing too big, keep the ornamentation to a minimum. Depending on your profession and your color choices, you may be able to limit initial purchases to three or four handbags.

    • For play - look to more casual fabrics including canvas and fabric. Slightly more ornamentation is acceptable on a more casual bag, including fun things like studs and charms.

    • For dates - take a bag that isn't too big, but still carries the essentials - house keys, identification and enough money to get you home in a cab if things go badly and you are not driving. You should also carry a credit card for unforeseen emergencies, plus a pen and paper for any notes you need to take.

    • For the theatre - usually a dressier occasion, this is where a velvet clutch or a beaded bag could be handy. Normally small in size, these will also carry just the essentials, but should also have room for a cell phone (which you turn off before entering the theatre).

    Protecting your investment

Quality handbags aren’t cheap, so you want to take care of them. Even if your collection consists of “kitschy” souvenir purses, the proper care of your collection will keep your bags looking as pristine as the day you brought them home.

    • Make sure your hands are clean before handling your bag.

    • Don't set your bag on kitchen counters, the ground, or anywhere else
that may have oil, dirt, or cleanser residue.
    • Store your bag in the original dust slip (if it came with one) or in
      a white cotton pillowcase.
    • Place pens, markers, makeup, bottles of water, and anything else that
can spill, in plastic baggies to eliminate damage to your bag's lining.
    • Keep authenticity cards. Some designers require these before doing
      repair work.
    • Consider keeping boxes and tags. If you decide to later sell your
bag, having these can earn you a higher asking price.
Check manufacturer's care instructions before attempting to clean the
bag yourself. Some materials can be ruined by even water.

      What in the bag?

The purse essentials according to Dianne M. Daniels

      • Identification (you never know, you might get carded)
      • Keys (duh)
      • Cell phone (need to connect with your girls)
      • Cash (the green stuff É believe it or not, not everyone accepts plastic)
      • Credit card(s)
      • Coins (meters, tips for street musicians)
      • Notepad and pen (you might meet Mr. Right É or make a business connection)
      • Business cards (because you can’t leave work at the office)
